2008 Sette Ponti Crognolo Toscana $39.99
Wine Advocate 92 Points
The 2008 Crognolo is very pretty in this vintage. A
persistent vein of minerality frames dark, jammy fruit in a
medium-bodied, impeccably refined style for this property. Over time
the wine’s inner perfume emerges, adding scents of roses, violets
all things floral. A long, clean finish adds freshness. Crognolo is
Sangiovese with a dollop of Merlot. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2016.

2009 Varner Chardonnay Bee Block $46.99
Wine Advocate 96 Points
The Bee Block is the most overt of these 2009 Chardonnays
from Varner. Here the fruit moves toward the tropical end of the
spectrum, perhaps owing to a richer layer of topsoil. Nevertheless,
this is the closest wine to what readers are likely to identify as
California Chardonnay. Once again, the integration of French oak is
nothing short of masterful. The long, textured, finish is striking.
Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019.

2008 Tua Rita Perlato del Bosco Vino da Tavola $29.99
Wine Advocate 92 Points
The 2008 Perlato del Bosco comes across as more muscular and
powerful than the seductive 2009. Dark cherries, berries, mocha,
spices and espresso are some of the aromas and flavors that emerge
from this intense, deep Perlato del Bosco. In 2008 the blend is 50%
Sangiovese and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity:
2013-2020. |

2007 Valle Reale
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo San Calisto
$38.99
Wine Advocate 93 Points
The top of the line 2007 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo San Calisto
flows across the palate with layers of blue and black fruit. Mineral
notes appear later, adding balance and proportion as the wine builds
towards its explosive, elegant finish. The San Calisto spent 18
months in new French oak, all of which has been absorbed with no
issues whatsoever. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022.

2009 Vietti Dolcetto d'Alba Tre Vigne $22.99
Winemakers Notes: Purple red color with a light blue hue, the
Dolcetto has aromas of black cherry, raspberry and hint of
blueberries and minerals. An unoaked wine, this medium bodied red
has soft tannins, moderate acidity and good balance. |

Ramitello Molise
$19.99
Wine Advocate 92 Points
The 2008 Ramitello, a blend of 80%
Montepulciano and 20% Aglianico, boasts fabulous clarity and
freshness, with layers of vibrant dark cherries and plums
that meld together with notable grace. Smoke, tar, menthol
and licorice develop in the glass, giving the wine even more
dimensions of expression. This is a terrific effort from Di
Majo Norante. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2013. |
