Our Latest "Best
Value" Finds
We
constantly taste new wines to find wines that have a big QPR
(Quality Price Ratio). In other words, a big bang for the
buck. They taste far more impressive than their low price
would indicate. Here are just a few of our latest finds.

Now in our 20/20 Summer Selections - Save

Made from 113 year old vines in
the old vine Zinfandel and value capital of California, Lodi. Aromas
of red and black cherry, rhubarb and red fruit with spicy
characters. In the mouth, it is wrapped in a velvety layered mix of
sweet red cherry, strawberry, cocoa and juicy red fruit followed by
light toast and smooth, chiseled tannins, leading to a lengthy,
almost breathless finish.

“ A blend of
45% Monastrell, 25% Tempranillo, and the balance Syrah, Garnacha,
Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep purple in color (remarkably
dense for its humble price), it offers up a kinky, full-blown nose
of smoke, spice box, and wild blueberry. Ripe, succulent, and
layered, this bargain-priced, hedonistic effort totally
over-delivers. Buy it by the palette load and drink it over the next
three years" |

Pure Chardonnay. Another
value winner from Chris Ringland's R. Winery. An incredible
aroma of floral notes, pear, and spiced apple. A rich wine on the
palate with nice fruit and lively acidity which balances the richly
textured mouthfeel with clean zippy finish.

This is one of the greatest bargains I have ever tasted from
California. Made by the Gallo family, it is a blend of 45% Syrah,
44% Zinfandel, 9% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon that comes from
primarily Lodi as well as Sonoma, the Central Coast, and Napa. A
hedonist’s dream, this fruit-bomb exhibits loads of berry fruit,
pepper, and spice, silky tannins, and an attractive mouthfeel. It
should drink well for 1-2 years. Bravo to Gallo!

"An exquisite value, this is a seductive, fleshy,
fruity wine with excellent texture, body, and balance. Lots of
cassis as well as silky tannins characterize this top bargain pick!
Drink it over the next 5-7 years. "

"Vibrant purple hue. Uplifting blackberry aromas
followed by notes of mint, toasted oak and vanilla coffee bean.
Tasty layers of black fruit laced with smoky oak and anise-like
richness. A remarkably low-priced, well-made offering drinking
nicely right now."

NV Don's Lodi Red
by Michael David Vineyards $12.99
Carignane, Syrah, a splash of
sweet Symphony and a dash of love are the main components of this
wine, which was produced to honor and surprise Mike and Dave
Phillips (Michael David Vineyards) father, Don Phillips, on his 75th
birthday. This is an atypical blend of red and white wines, with
lovely fruity characteristics of Symphony added in order to please
Don's amiable palate. This is an easy-drinking, everyday, great
quality, red table wine. Or, in the words of Wine Today.com, the
three stars Lodi Red is "a great quaff at a bargain price." |
